Tom Ryland



Alongside fellow architect Susan Ware, Tom Ryland was a founding partner of The Chartered Practice in 1992 and CPA Ltd in 1998. Tom built up the practice and ran it as Principal Director until his retirement in 2012.


Tom qualified in 1974 and during his career has worked as an architect for United Kingdom Housing Association; a Group Architect for the Borough Architects Department, London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham; and Associate at Chapman Taylor Partners.


Tom is a Committee member and Past Chairman of the West London Architectural Society and was previously a Committee Member of the RIBA London Regional Council.  Currently vice-Chairman of The Hammersmith Society, he is responsible for the co-ordination of the Society’s involvement in general planning and environmental matters.  The Society sponsors an Annual Environmental Award Scheme with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.  Tom Ryland is also a Committee member and adviser to the Hammersmith and Fulham Historic Buildings Group with special interest in dealing with Listed Buildings. Tom is British Secretary to the Franco British Union of Architects, and will become Vice President in May 2013.
